During the NATO summit, Joe Biden mistakenly referred to Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin,” despite his allies warning that his chances of winning the US election are slim.
Speaking in Washington at the end of the summit, President Biden made the error while introducing the Ukrainian president.
“Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin,” Mr. Biden said, before correcting himself. “President Putin? I’m going to beat President Putin, President Zelenskyy. I am so focused on beating Putin,” he added.
In reply, Mr. Zelenskyy joked, “I am better.”

Mr. Biden’s misstep at the summit came shortly after some of his closest allies expressed doubt about his ability to win the US election and suggested he drop out of the race.
Several allies, including those involved in his re-election campaign, believe he should step aside and let another Democrat take the lead.
They believe that the sentiment to replace him is widespread among aides, operatives, and officials working on his campaign.
Joe Biden has been facing questions about his fitness to run for office following a poor debate performance against opponent Donald Trump.
The White House denied reports that he was being treated for Parkinson’s disease after a specialist doctor visited him multiple times in the past year.
Mr. Biden’s doctor confirmed that he shows no symptoms of Parkinson’s or any other neurological disease.
A Biden campaign official and others working to elect him expressed doubts about his ability to win the election and suggested he drop out.
