American rapper Rich Homie Quan passes away at 33 in Atlanta | Entertainment & Arts News
US rapper Rich Homie Quan, one of the biggest hip-hop names in the mid-2010s, has passed away at the age of 33.
Homie Quan, real name Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died in an Atlanta hospital, according to the Fulton County medical examiner.
The cause of death was not immediately known, with a post-mortem scheduled for Friday.
In 2013, Quan made a breakthrough in music with the song Type Of Way, which became a major success leading to remixes by other rappers like Jeezy and Meek Mill.
He continued to rise in the music industry, collaborating on tracks like Lifestyle with Jeezy and releasing Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh), a solo single that peaked at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Quan later released his only studio album Rich As In Spirit in 2018, with limited collaborations. He expressed his intention to return to music after a hiatus due to legal issues with T.I.G. (Think It’s a Game Record).
In 2022, Quan addressed his feud with Young Thug, emphasizing that there were no personal issues and he was open to a conversation with his former collaborator.
He also raised concerns about the targeting of rappers by law enforcement and the need for caution in lyrical content.

“I wouldn’t say unfairly targeted because at the same time, some of these rappers are putting guns in videos and, you know, it’s like social media, it goes back to the social media thing,” he said.
“I think we showing too much, I think they’re showing too much.
“That’s the difference in my music, I’ma tell a story but I ain’t going to tell you how I did it,” he added.
“It’s still black art, but we’re definitely being targeted. So that’s why I’m mindful of what I say in my music.”
