Amtrak Prepares for Thanksgiving Travel Rush

NEW YORK CITY—Amtrak is gearing up for the Thanksgiving holiday, anticipating over one million passengers.

“Thanksgiving is our busiest week of the entire year. We’d like to refer to it as our Super Bowl,” shared Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams with reporters on Nov. 27.

During Thanksgiving week in 2023, over a million individuals traveled on Amtrak trains, and Abrams mentioned they anticipate even more this year.

Abrams explained that Amtrak has implemented strategies to accommodate the increased traffic by utilizing every train and train car in their fleet.

Additionally, Amtrak has enlisted extra staff called “ambassadors” to assist individuals who are unfamiliar with train travel. These volunteers can be identified by their neon-yellow vests.

To ensure a hassle-free trip, Abrams recommended that travelers arrive at the station at least an hour early. He also suggested downloading the Amtrak App for real-time train and service updates along with digital tickets.

In terms of security concerns, travelers were advised by Abrams to report any suspicious behavior.

He mentioned that security is heightened during the holiday season to ensure safety, with the Amtrak Police Department (APD) present in stations and on trains.
