Another Medical Journal Reports Receiving Correspondence from U.S. Prosecutor
U.S. Attorney Edward Martin Jr. has reached out to medical journals regarding suspected bias.
On April 23, a federal prosecutor sent a letter to the New England Journal of Medicine, as confirmed by the journal.
A representative from the journal informed The Epoch Times via email that it had received correspondence from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
Dr. Eric Rubin, the editor-in-chief of the journal and a physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, addressed the letter by affirming that the journal is committed to publishing “evidence-based scientific information that physicians can depend on for high-quality medical care.”
Rubin stated that the journal’s editorial team, comprising practicing physicians, “recognizes our duty to doctors and patients” and applies stringent peer review and editorial standards to guarantee the objectivity and reliability of the research it publishes.
He concluded by asserting: “We endorse the editorial independence of medical journals and uphold their First Amendment rights to free expression. The Journal actively promotes scholarly scientific dialogue and remains resolute in our pledge to support authors, readers, and patients.”
The spokeswoman did not provide information regarding the specifics of the U.S. attorney’s office letter, which is led by Edward Martin Jr., and has not responded to The Epoch Times’ inquiries for comments.
He sought responses to various inquiries, including how the journal’s leadership gauges their responsibilities to “shield the public from misinformation” and whether they accept articles presenting differing perspectives.
Several other journals, including Nature, endorsed Trump’s opponents, Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024.
