Armie Hammer Responds to Cannibalism and Assault Claims | Entertainment & Arts News

Armie Hammer has once again refuted the assertions that he is a cannibal, maintaining that his actions were “not illegal” amidst allegations of sexual assault.

In an interview on The Louis Theroux Podcast, the 38-year-old actor, known for Call Me By Your Name, openly discussed the rape accusations made by a woman in Los Angeles in 2021.

He also confronted leaked messages that illustrated unsettling and violent sexual fantasies involving cannibalism and rape.

When Theroux directly asked, “Are you a cannibal?” Hammer responded: “You know what you have to do to actually be a cannibal? You have to actually eat human flesh. So no.”

The father of two has consistently denied all allegations against him, stating in the recent interview that these accusations resulted in the loss of his job, access to his children, and professional representation.

Prosecutors ultimately chose not to file charges against the actor in 2023, citing “insufficient evidence”.

“I think the most important context to provide for these types of issues is that they represent one side of a conversation,” Hammer noted regarding the leaked messages.

“As you’ll see from all the released text messages, the perspective of the person who shared them is entirely absent from the conversation.”

‘I was a jerk, but that’s not illegal’

Addressing a specific allegation about consuming the organ of a living animal, alluding to one of the leaked messages, Hammer described taking a single bite from an animal’s heart during a hunting excursion.

“One of the traditions is to take a bite out of the heart with your friends surrounding you, all egging you on,” the actor explained.

“It’s almost like an over-the-top male rite of passage when you’re hunting for the first time.”

“Everyone I know who went hunting for their first time had a similar experience.”

He added that he had left many people “angry” because of his behavior, but stood firm that nothing he did was illegal.

“I’m quick to admit that I was selfish, inconsiderate, and a jerk; I used people to feel better,” he reflected.

“I left a lot of people feeling very angry with me for my behavior, which, by the way, was certainly jerk-like behavior.”

“Does it make me a jerk? Absolutely. I have no issue admitting that I was a jerk, but that’s not illegal, you know?”

After the allegations emerged, Hammer withdrew from a film role alongside Jennifer Lopez and turned to selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands, which he mentioned he “loved”.

“I was in a part of my life where things felt incredibly bleak, so doing anything felt rewarding,” he explained.

“I also worked as a gardener at a school at one point. In the Cayman Islands, I managed an apartment building and sold timeshares, and honestly, I was having the time of my life.”

Concluding the podcast, Hammer stated that he has “moved beyond” the allegations.

Recognizing that personal growth is a “daily process,” he added: “I understand that topics like this [the podcast] need to come up, but I’m just very pleased to report that they are no longer a part of my life.”
