Barack Obama proudly endorses Kamala Harris to challenge Donald Trump in the White House race | US News
Barack Obama, the former president, expressed his pride and endorsement for Kamala Harris to replace Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate for the US election.
Mr Obama had previously remained silent while other prominent Democrats endorsed the US vice president following Mr Biden’s exit from the race.
After Mr Biden’s departure, Obama released a statement that hinted at supporting an open contest for the Democratic nominee.
However, a video has now been released showing Ms Harris receiving support from Mr. Obama and his wife Michelle in a phone call.
In the call, Mr. Obama states: “Michelle and I are proud to endorse you and support you in your journey to the Oval Office.”
Mrs. Obama, commenting on a poll result suggesting her potential victory if she ran, expressed her pride in Ms Harris, calling it a historic moment.
Ms Harris responded with gratitude, expressing her excitement to have their support and friendship throughout the election campaign.
The Obamas have been more reserved in their endorsement of Ms Harris compared to other Democratic leaders.
Bill and Hillary Clinton, along with Nancy Pelosi, quickly backed Ms Harris after Mr. Biden announced his withdrawal from the race.
