Barbra Streisand discusses her ‘Ozempic’ remark on Melissa McCarthy’s Instagram post | Entertainment & Arts Update
Barbra Streisand has provided an explanation after inquiring about Melissa McCarthy’s use of the weight loss drug Ozempic.
On Monday, McCarthy shared a photo of herself with director Adam Shankman at a charity gala honouring choreographer Matthew Bourne.
Comments poured in from fans and celebrities, including Streisand, whose now-deleted post caused a stir.
The iconic actress wrote: “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?”
The comment quickly caught the attention of McCarthy’s followers, with one Twitter user commenting: “Omg somebody please teach Barbra Streisand how to send a DM.”
Streisand’s post was later removed, and she has now clarified her intentions in a subsequent post on X.
The 82-year-old wrote: “OMG – I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday!
“Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic!
“I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading.”
McCarthy, 53, has not responded to either of Streisand’s posts.
Ozempic, initially developed for diabetes patients, works by curbing appetite and slowing down digestion, leading to weight loss as it is continued to be taken.
The drug has been prohibited as an obesity treatment in the UK due to global shortages caused by high demand.
Several Hollywood celebrities have been rumored to have used Ozempic for weight loss, but only a few have publicly admitted it.
