Baywatch is Making a Comeback on TV – Sources Say | Entertainment and Arts Update

Reports indicate that Baywatch is making a comeback on screens with a reboot, 25 years after the original show ended. The show, which followed a group of Los Angeles lifeguards, was incredibly popular worldwide during its 11 seasons from 1989 to 1999.

Fremantle, the company that owns the rights to Baywatch, seemed to confirm that a remake will be airing on Fox by sharing an article about the plans. Written by showrunner Lara Olsen, the reboot is said to have the same team of producers from the original series, but it remains unclear if any of the old fan-favorite actors will make a return.

Notable actors from the original series include David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, although it is unknown if they will have any involvement in the new iteration. Erika Eleniak, who portrayed Shauni McClain from the show’s debut until 1992, expressed to Sky News in 2020 that she would be open to a return.

“I would [be up for a Baywatch return], but I don’t think I’d be wearing a red bathing suit again,” she said. “Or a purple one, or any colour, quite frankly. It would depend on a lot of things, it would depend on the story, that would be huge. The story and the writing would be huge.”

According to several reports, the official description will read: “Daring ocean rescues, pristine beaches, and iconic red bathing suits are back, along with a whole new generation of Baywatch lifeguards, who navigate complicated, messy personal lives in this action-packed reboot that demonstrates there’s the family you’re born into and the family you find.”

The original series transcended its TV slot and was parodied in The Simpsons and The Muppets, and featured in Friends when it became one of the common interests that brought Joey and Chandler together.
