Biden Concludes Presidency with a Legacy Tour
President Biden will be delivering speeches, hosting ceremonies, and participating in events to underscore his achievements as he prepares to transfer the White House to President-elect Donald Trump.
In his final week in office, President Joe Biden is organizing a series of events aimed at emphasizing his legacy and the successes of his administration.
Biden’s farewell week will encompass a variety of speeches, ceremonies, and events as he gets ready to pass the baton to President-elect Donald Trump.
Monday
Biden delivered his last foreign policy address at the State Department, where he highlighted his administration’s achievements in strengthening NATO, uniting allies and partners to support Ukraine amidst its conflict with Russia, and enhancing chip manufacturing to compete with China.
“In my opinion, thanks to our administration, the United States is excelling in the global competition,” Biden stated. “Compared to four years ago, America is more robust. Our alliances are fortified. Our adversaries and competitors are less formidable. We have avoided war to achieve these outcomes.”
Biden asserted that he leveraged America’s strength to lead on the global stage and unite nations. He continuously championed democracy, civil rights, and human rights, providing essential leadership during critical times, he noted.
Biden emphasized that his administration is leaving a “very strong hand for the next administration to play” because the country is in a better position now than it was four years ago.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, Biden will commemorate his proclamation to safeguard tribal lands in California.
Originally set for last week, Tuesday’s announcement was delayed due to the wildfires in California. Biden had to cancel that trip and reschedule the event to take place at the White House.
The White House further noted that Biden has now protected more lands and waters than any other president in U.S. history.
Wednesday
Wednesday will feature what is anticipated to be the week’s most significant event: Biden’s primetime farewell address to the nation from the Oval Office.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre informed reporters last week that Biden would reflect on his over 50 years of public service during this speech.
“He has thoughts about the future—not just for the nation but also how the country can advance as a leader regarding critical global issues,” she mentioned.
This farewell speech provides Biden with one final opportunity to address the American public and the world as the 46th president, with his remarks scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
Thursday
On Thursday, Biden will participate in a farewell ceremony at the Department of Defense (DOD).
“Secretary Austin will host an Armed Forces farewell tribute in honor of President Biden, during which he will be joined by senior department leaders, colleagues from the administration, and other dignitaries to recognize President Biden for his distinguished service as our commander-in-chief and 46th president of the United States,” announced Pentagon press secretary Pat Ryder at a press briefing on Monday.
Friday
On Friday, Biden will address the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) for the last time.
He will deliver his remarks during the conference’s 93rd Winter Meeting.
The event will take place at the Marriott Marquis in Washington.
