Biden: US ‘Close’ to Getting Leaker

President Joe Biden says the U.S. is “close” to getting the person who leaked classified documents on a social media site, the Voice of America is reporting.

“There’s a full-blown investigation going on, as you know,” Biden said when asked about the leaks. “The intelligence community and the Justice Department. And they’re getting close. I don’t have an answer for you.”

CNN reported Biden was speaking in Dublin, where he was meeting the Irish president.

The Washington Post, citing members of an online chat group, reported Wednesday that the person responsible for leaking the documents is a gun enthusiast in his 20s who worked on a military base.

According to the newspaper, a group, consisting mainly of men and boys –had started an invitation-only clubhouse in 2020 on the online site, Discord.

A man, some called “OG,” appeared to post near verbatim transcripts of classified documents.

OG reportedly indicated he had brought the documents home from his job on a “military base.”

Discord said in a statement earlier on Wednesday that it was cooperating with law enforcement, according to Reuters.

The Department of Justice opened a formal criminal probe last week after the matter was referred by the Pentagon, which is assessing the damage done by what may be the most damaging release of classified U.S. information in years, the wire service added.
