Boy Shot, Man Stabbed Near Apartment Complex in San Diego

SAN DIEGO—Detectives are attempting to determine whether the shooting of a 16-year-old boy and the stabbing of a 19-year-old man near and in an apartment complex in the Nestor community of San Diego are related, authorities said.

Officers received a radio call at about 11:45 p.m. Aug. 19 involving a shooting and located the 16-year-old boy near a bus stop at 1600 Oro Vista Road suffering from a gunshot wound in the right upper thigh area, the San Diego Police Department reported.

The teenager was uncooperative and would not provide any suspect information. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers were notified, while investigating the shooting, that Chula Vista police were responding to a stabbing victim at Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista and that the victim, a 19-year-old man, was stabbed in the neck in an apartment complex at 1600 Oro Vista Road.

The 19-year-old man had been taken to the hospital by two companions, who were uncooperative and unable to provide any suspect descriptions to police—but did state the assault occurred at an apartment complex at 1600 Oro Vista Drive.

The 19-year-old man was unable to provide a statement, due to his medical condition.

“At this time we are unable to confirm if these incidents are related,” police said in a news statement. “The stabbing victim needed emergency surgery, and was transported to [the University of California–San Diego Medical Center]. Following surgery, the victim was listed as stable and expected to survive.”
