Breaching Whale Causes Fishing Boat to Capsize off New Hampshire Coast | US News
Two individuals on a fishing vessel narrowly escaped disaster when a whale breached and overturned it near the coast of New Hampshire.
The incident occurred close to Odiorne Point State Park, as reported by the US Coastguard.
Responders confirmed that they were alerted via a distress call indicating that a 23ft boat had capsized due to a whale breaching.
“The occupants were thrown from the boat as it flipped over,” the Coastguard shared on X.
“Fortunately, a kind Samaritan rescued both individuals from the water unharmed.”
The boat’s crew from Station Portsmouth noted that the whale did not appear to be harmed.
The incident has been reported to the Center of Coastal Studies Marine Animal Hotline and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
