Brian Thompson Shooting: Suspect Arrested Makes Court Appearance | US News

A man alleged to have murdered UnitedHealth executive Brian Thompson has made a court appearance in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Luigi Mangione was apprehended in Altoona after a McDonald’s employee recognized him as the suspected gunman while he was dining.

The 26-year-old is currently facing charges related to gun possession and forgery.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro stated that he anticipates Mangione will soon face charges in New York as well.

According to New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Mangione was in possession of a “ghost gun”—a firearm assembled from various parts, making it virtually untraceable—and a silencer that matched the weapon used in Thompson’s shooting.

Additionally, he was found in possession of several counterfeit identification documents and a handwritten note that suggested insights into “both his motivation and his mindset.”
