California Police Department Announces $100,000 Reward for Information Leading to Police Shooter’s Capture
The individual gained entry to a secure police facility before opening fire on an officer on February 22, as reported by officials.
On March 12, police in a Northern California town revealed a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification of a man suspected of fatally shooting one of their officers at a police facility last month.
Hillsborough police, situated approximately 20 miles south of San Francisco, expressed hopes that this urgent reward offer would facilitate the identification and capture of the suspect involved in a “brazen attack” that occurred around 3:50 p.m. on February 22.
Authorities reported that during the shooting, the unidentified perpetrator breached a secure section of the Hillsborough Police Department’s auxiliary facility on Floribunda Avenue, opening fire on the officer and inflicting injuries.
The police disclosed in a Wednesday release, “The officer, despite sustaining injuries, returned fire, compelling the suspect to flee the scene on foot.”
It remains unclear whether the suspect sustained any injuries during the exchange.
The officer is anticipated to make a full recovery, as per the department’s report on March 1.
From the brief encounter that lasted only seconds, the officer managed to provide a limited description of the suspect, according to the department.
The suspect is described as a possibly Hispanic male, likely in his mid-20s to mid-30s, standing between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. It is approximated that he weighs around 165 pounds and was last seen donning a black trucker hat, a black windbreaker-type jacket possibly over a white short-sleeved shirt, dark jeans with rhinestones on the back pockets, and flat-soled Nike shoes.
The suspect is believed to have medium-dark hair along with a lighter complexion.
During the incident, the suspect was armed with a firearm, partially concealed by a sweatshirt, according to Hillsborough police.
Investigators state that the suspect was seen running southbound on El Camino Real in Burlingame around 5:30 p.m. that day, appearing anxious and looking back frequently, as reported by police.
