Celebrating Kindness: Gan Jing World Reveals Winners of Video Competition
The submitted videos were available in 11 different languages, together accumulating over 10 million views from audiences in 150 countries.
Gan Jing World (GJW) has proudly revealed the winners of its 2024 Kindness Is Cool Video Awards, a worldwide competition that aims to “honor the transformative nature of kindness.”
The contest received over 26,000 entries showcasing acts of kindness from individuals across more than 50 countries. The submitted videos were available in 11 languages, together gathering over 10 million views in 150 nations, illustrating that kindness speaks a universal language, as stated by GJW.
The winners will be honored on March 28 in New York City’s Times Square during an event that will feature the winning entries and share their stories with a global audience.
The gold award and a shared cash prize of $10,000 goes to singer-songwriter James H. White for his video titled “Hero in Uniform: Army Sergeant Leads Hurricane Helene Relief Drive.”
White’s video pays tribute to Army Sgt. Michael Sharpes, who led a veteran-led relief initiative after the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. Inspired by Sharpes, White created the song “Born to Rise,” which celebrates themes of unity, resilience, and compassion in difficult times.
According to GJW, White has graciously decided to distribute his winnings between two charitable organizations: Save Our Allies, dedicated to assisting Americans and allies in times of crisis, and Aerial Recovery, which helps veterans and first responders with disaster relief and anti-human trafficking efforts globally.
The silver award was given to Audrey for her short film “Old Shoes,” which secured her a $1,000 prize.
This narrative, based on real events, revolves around a young woman who finds an old pair of shoes at her doorstep on multiple occasions. Initially, she suspects her elderly neighbor but eventually discovers a hidden act of gentle kindness.
GJW noted that the film’s intimate narrative and emotional weight emphasize how small actions can create significant differences in people’s lives.
This year, Gan Jing World also launched the Student Voices School Award category, honoring remarkable student filmmakers from two Vietnamese universities—Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and HCMC University of Technology and Education—each receiving $500 for their touching video projects that celebrate kindness.
Honorable mentions went to “Our World,” which features young Priscilla preparing breakfast for her grandmother while contemplating inner beauty; and “Fable,” an animated retelling of “The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs,” imparting timeless messages about gratitude over greed.
