Chace Crawford reveals surprise over octopus sex scene in The Boys – Ents & Arts News

Actor Chace Crawford reveals that he was caught off guard by a scene where he had to simulate sex with an octopus, causing him to almost have a panic attack.

The 38-year-old, best known for his role as Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl, plays one of the main characters in all four seasons of the satirical superhero series The Boys on Amazon Prime.

When he first accepted the role of Kevin Moskowitz, also known as The Deep – a character with the ability to breathe underwater and communicate with sea creatures – in 2019, Crawford had no idea about the challenging scene that awaited him.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, he admitted that he might have reconsidered taking the part if he had known about it beforehand.

Upon reading the scene in episode six of season three for the first time, Crawford recalled thinking: “Oh God, how’s this going to work?”

He confessed, “I was in total denial about it. And then it got 24 hours out from the first day I had to shoot it and I almost had a panic attack.”

Crawford reached out to showrunner Eric Kripke to discuss the scene’s execution, asking questions like: “How are we gonna do this? What are the angles gonna be? How naked do I have to be?”

He revealed that only one shot was altered in the end, and the filming went smoothly.

The octopus, named Ambrosius, is voiced by Oscar-winning British actress Tilda Swinton.

Although Crawford mentioned it was a closed set (where only essential crew members are present due to the sensitive nature of the scene), he noted that the production’s intimacy coordinator was not involved in the filming process.

He admitted, “Just the act of picking up the octopus and having a wet octopus in the bed was so funny and weird.”

Crawford expressed that the significant gap between filming and the episodes airing also heightened his anxiety. “It doesn’t come out for a year almost [after you’ve filmed it], and you’re like, ‘How is this going to be received?’,” he explained.

Despite his apprehension, Crawford mentioned that fans have largely appreciated his performance, with some even approaching him to express their admiration.

“I saw someone at the gym the other day and he was like, ‘I’m actually going to show you this.’

“And it was him in a Deep costume with a pink octopus wrapped around him at Comic-Con or something. Everyone loved it, man. I get ragged on a little bit, but it’s good.”
