Cher’s Request for Temporary Conservatorship of 47-Year-Old Son Elijah Blue Allman Denied

Cher has been unsuccessful in her attempt to have her 47-year-old son, Elijah Blue Allman, placed under a court conservatorship to manage his finances.

In a petition filed in December, the Oscar and Grammy-winning star expressed concerns about Allman’s substantial trust payments from his late father, rocker Gregg Allman, due to his struggles with mental health and substance abuse.

Cher, 77, was married to Allman, of the Allman Brothers Band, from 1975 to 1979. She also has an older son, 54-year-old Chaz Bono, from her first husband Sonny Bono.

Although Cher’s request was denied by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jessica A Uzcategui, a long-term conservatorship will be considered at a hearing in March.

Cher observed the hearing remotely but did not participate in the legal arguments.

Allman and his legal team were present in court and acknowledged his past struggles while arguing that he is currently in a good place, receiving treatment, and reconciling with his estranged wife, Marieangela King.

Cher’s lawyers contended that the support Allman is receiving is from individuals who cater to his desires and minimize the extent of his problems. They stated that Allman has bipolar disorder, has been homeless, and having access to a large amount of money could pose a risk to his life due to potential drug use.

Allman’s legal team refuted these claims.

Cher’s lawyers clarified that she was not seeking direct control over Allman’s money and would be open to a court-appointed fiduciary managing his finances.

In November 2022, Cher denied allegations of hiring individuals to kidnap Allman from a New York hotel room.

Court conservatorships, also known as guardianships in some states, have received increased public attention in recent years, particularly following the high-profile case of Britney Spears, who was under the control of her father from 2008 to 2021 due to mental health issues.

Her conservatorship was established after she experienced mental health challenges.
