Congressman Proposes Resolution to Censure Rep. Al Green
Rep. Al Green was removed from the House chamber following his disruption during Trump’s address to Congress on March 4.
On March 5, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.) proposed a resolution to censure Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) for his interruption of President Donald Trump’s speech during a joint congressional session.
As Trump commenced his speech on March 4, Green stood up with his cane and heckled the president. Ignoring repeated warnings from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Green was subsequently escorted from the House chamber.
The resolution, spanning two pages, claims that Green’s actions “disrupted the proceedings of the joint address and constituted a violation of appropriate conduct.”
A motion by Democrats to table the resolution was rejected with a vote of 209–211, including one member voting “present.”
The Epoch Times has contacted Green’s office for a statement regarding these events.
After his ejection from the chamber, Green remarked to reporters that he was responding to the president’s claim of having a “mandate.”

“I was clearly informing the president that he does not have a mandate to cut Medicaid,” he stated. “Many of my constituents are extremely concerned. These are vulnerable individuals who rely solely on Medicaid for their healthcare.”
Critics of the House GOP’s initiative to initiate the reconciliation process for Trump’s proposals concerning the border, taxation, and energy have raised concerns regarding $880 billion in deficit reductions projected over the next decade by the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Both Democrats and some Republicans worry that these reductions could adversely impact Medicaid. The reconciliation process allows bills related to taxation, spending, and national debt to circumvent the typical 60-vote filibuster requirement that most Senate legislation faces.
However, Trump and Johnson have reassured that Medicaid will remain untouched, with Johnson stating that the upcoming legislation will solely target waste, fraud, and abuse within the program.
Recently, Green announced his plan to introduce articles of impeachment against Trump concerning his proposal for the U.S. to take control of Gaza.
“I rise to declare that the impeachment movement against the president has commenced,” he stated. “I rise to proclaim that I will submit articles of impeachment due to the heinous actions proposed and committed.”
In early February, Trump suggested relocating Gazans to safer areas and that the U.S. assume control of the war-torn region to facilitate rebuilding, no longer under Hamas. He has urged neighboring countries such as Jordan and Egypt to accept Gazans, but they have declined the offer.
