Court told Harvey Weinstein under investigation for more violent sexual assaults

Prosecutors in New York have announced an investigation into “additional violent sexual assaults” involving Harvey Weinstein.

During a hearing in New York, prosecutor Nicole Blumberg stated that they would pursue a new indictment, citing that the alleged additional assaults in Manhattan are still within the statute of limitations for charging as crimes.

The 72-year-old film producer’s 2020 conviction in New York, which resulted in a 23-year prison sentence, sparked the global #MeToo movement. However, the conviction was overturned by the state’s highest court in April.

A retrial has not been scheduled yet.

The decision to overturn the original conviction was based on “egregious” improper rulings by the judge, including allowing women to testify about allegations not related to the case.

Weinstein has consistently denied any non-consensual encounters.

Weinstein remains in prison after a 2022 conviction in Los Angeles for another rape, resulting in a 16-year sentence. He is currently appealing this conviction.

Following the overturning of the New York conviction, Weinstein was hospitalized due to health issues, including cardiac problems, diabetes, sleep apnea, and eye problems.

Weinstein, once Hollywood’s most powerful figure, has acknowledged causing pain but maintains his innocence, stating that all sexual activity was consensual.
