Debt Limit Deal Faces Pushback From House Conservatives; Elizabeth Holmes Begins 11-Year Sentence

The House Rules Committee on May 30 met to discuss the debt limit deal struck by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and President Joe Biden. Members of the staunchly conservative House Freedom Caucus have promised a “reckoning” if their Republican colleagues support the deal.

Meanwhile, McCarthy said he is prepared to advance contempt of Congress charges against Christopher Wray if the FBI director misses a May 30 deadline to hand Congress a document alleging a criminal scheme involving Biden.

Disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes reported to prison in Texas. She was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison last November, after she was convicted months earlier on multiple charges of defrauding investors while running the now-defunct startup.
