Delta Jet Cancels Takeoff at Snowy Atlanta Airport Due to Engine Issue
ATLANTA—On Friday, four passengers sustained injuries at the Atlanta airport when a Delta Air Lines flight heading to Minneapolis aborted its takeoff.
According to Delta spokesperson Morgan Durrant, the aircraft encountered an engine issue. This incident coincided with a snowstorm that was significantly disrupting operations at Atlanta, recognized as the world’s busiest airport. However, authorities have not confirmed whether the incident was related to the weather conditions.
The Boeing 757-300, carrying 201 passengers, two pilots, and five flight attendants, required evacuation via inflatable slides, after which the passengers were taken back to a concourse by bus. One passenger was transported to a hospital, while three others received treatment for minor injuries at the airport.
Durrant emphasized that the flight crew “adhered to established procedures to halt the takeoff.”
“The safety of our people and customers is our top priority, and we apologize for the experience our customers faced,” Durrant stated. “We are actively working to assist our customers and ensure they reach their destinations safely and swiftly.”
The Federal Aviation Administration announced it will conduct an investigation into the incident.

On Friday, all five runways at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport were temporarily closed, and Delta reported that approximately 500 flights had already been canceled by noon. The airline mentioned in a statement that snow “arrived earlier and with greater intensity than predicted, which hindered deicing operations and delayed processes.”
Delta has announced that customers can rebook their flights without incurring additional fees and that further cancellations or rescheduling may occur.
