Democrat Representative Jared Moskowitz to Join House DOGE Caucus

Rep. Jared Moskowitz’s choice to join the bicameral caucus follows just two days after Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) expressed agreement with Elon Musk regarding government inefficiencies.

On December 3, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) became the first Democrat to align with a House caucus focused on promoting the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“I am convinced that improving government processes and curtailing wasteful government spending should transcend party lines,” he stated.

“I’ve consistently emphasized that there are methods to reorganize our government for enhanced efficiency on behalf of the American public.”

Moskowitz additionally expressed a desire to separate the Secret Service and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from the Department of Homeland Security.

“It’s not feasible to manage 22 agencies within a single department,” he remarked.

The Delivering on Outstanding Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus is a collaborative initiative spearheaded by Reps. Aaron Bean (R-Fla.), Pete Sessions (R-Texas), and Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa).

Initiated in the House on November 19 and in the Senate on November 22, the caucus aims to bolster the newly created expense-cutting government agency, spearheaded by technology mogul Elon Musk and pharmaceutical entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Pointing to the “staggering $36 trillion” national debt, Bean noted in a press release that the agency is intended to “dismantle the excessive bureaucracy, eliminate wasteful programs, cut unnecessary regulations, and restructure federal entities.”

The caucus has already attracted support from 37 Republican members of the House, in addition to Senators James Lankford (R-Okla.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.).

While Moskowitz stands as the first Democrat to join the congressional DOGE initiative, he may not be the only one. Just two days prior to his involvement, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) shared a post on X agreeing with Musk’s viewpoint on government waste.

“Elon Musk is correct,” he stated. “The Pentagon, with an $886 billion budget, has failed its seventh consecutive audit. It has lost track of billions.”

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) also indicated his willingness to participate in the effort to economize military spending.

“Reducing wasteful funding and conserving taxpayer dollars is a non-partisan concern,” Khanna asserted on X.

“We ought to collaborate with @elonmusk and @DOGE to break up the oligopoly of the five primes and hold defense contractors accountable.”

The term “five primes” refers to the five largest defense contractors in the U.S.: Lockheed Martin, RTX, General Dynamics, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman.

Khanna also shared an interview with CNBC, where he maintained that he disagreed with Musk on other matters, such as the role of the Consumer Financial Credit Bureau.

Nevertheless, he expressed that those who wish to abandon efforts to cut defense spending solely because Musk is involved are “being hypocritical.”
