Democrats are hopeful that Harris is the real deal – why her upcoming speech is crucial.

Tonight in Chicago, Kamala Harris must deliver the most crucial speech of her career.

It’s not because her chances are over if she doesn’t – there’s still a long road ahead.

If you consider what transpired in just two weeks since 13 July when Trump was shot, you can only imagine what could happen in the next 10 weeks.

Her speech needs to calm the nerves of a party that is desperately trying to hide their doubts about her.

The enthusiasm and euphoria among Democrats are not solely based on the belief that she’s the ideal candidate, but more so a sense of relief that with Joe Biden stepping aside, they now have a fighting chance.

The reality is they’ve rallied behind a candidate who until recently wasn’t considered a better option than Biden himself.

He clinched the nomination as they believed he was their best shot, despite being 81 and showing it.

Kamala Harris wasn’t viewed as a natural leader until Democratic leaders panicked and deemed her essential as one.

All the talk of Kamala being the chosen one, the future president, the trailblazer waiting in the wings may hold some truth… but only in the context of the Democrats’ urgent situation with Joe Biden.

Internally, wise Democrats acknowledge this truth. Externally, they refuse to admit it.

Essentially, they’re still unsure if she’s the real deal.

That’s why a pivotal speech from her would be timely. It would affirm the decision to pivot away from Biden, as early polls have indicated.

Is Harris the real deal?

The speech is just the beginning. What follows are the challenges of the campaign: debates, interviews, responses to unforeseen events.

Kamala Harris must outline her vision and stand firm on her principles.

What does Kamala Harris believe in?

Currently, polls indicate that voters still trust Republicans on critical issues like the economy, inflation, immigration, and crime.

In politics, there are rare individuals who possess the complete package.

They exude confidence, articulate well, and are in sync with their era.

Think of Roosevelt, Reagan, Obama, and in the UK, Thatcher and Blair.

Some may be divisive or flawed, but all are what you could consider the genuine article.

If you’re part of their party, there’s no deliberation – you place your trust in them and let them lead.

But ‘real deals’ are few and far between.

No amount of wishful thinking can make someone the real deal.

Democrats realize that Harris isn’t Obama, but she’s their best option currently as time ticks away.

Democrats are anxious – Republicans are wary

So, almost by default, it’s Trump versus Harris.

Republicans reluctantly acknowledge he’s their strongest contender despite reservations about his character and potential actions in office.

Fear is what Trump has instilled in the Republican establishment. They are genuinely afraid of him.

Nikki Haley expressed this sentiment back in February while vying for the Republican nomination: “Many of the politicians who now publicly endorse Trump secretly fear him.

“They know the havoc he’s caused and will continue to cause our party. They’re just too scared to admit it.”

She would echo the same sentiment now, except for her party loyalty.

As for the Democrats, they are relieved to have moved on from the aging party veteran leading them to a certain defeat.

They knew he was steering them towards failure irreversibly.

But now, one concern has been swapped for another. From “is he too old?” to “is she up for the challenge?”

This is roughly where we stand 10 weeks before the election.

In a nutshell, Republicans are holding their noses while Democrats are holding their breath.
