Deputies Shoot Man Armed With Assault Rifle in Diamond Bar

DIAMOND BAR, Calif.—A suspect who may have stabbed his own mother then armed himself with an assault rifle while wearing body armor was shot and wounded by sheriff’s deputies June 19 in Diamond Bar.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau, deputies responded to a location near the 2900 block of Crooked Creek Drive at 11:45 a.m. on a report of a man wearing body armor and firing an assault rifle.

It was unclear exactly what unfolded when deputies arrived, but the suspect was ultimately shot by deputies and taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

No deputies were injured during the shooting, after which the rifle allegedly wielded by the suspect could be seen on the ground.

A neighbor told reporters at the scene that the suspect lives with his mother in the area, and the two were involved in a dispute Monday morning, ending with the suspect stabbing the woman. After that attack, the suspect ran several blocks away to the location where the shooting ultimately occurred.

The woman who was stabbed was taken to a hospital, also in unknown condition.
