Detectives in Los Angeles County Probe Discovery of Additional Human Remains in Palos Verdes

Since December 25, three bodies and two severed limbs have been found in the coastal area of Southern California.

Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are actively investigating the remains of an adult discovered on December 28 on the cliffs of Rancho Palos Verdes.

Officials indicate that the unidentified adult may have fallen from the cliff at Dina’s Viewpoint in Pelican Cove Park, situated about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

This grim finding marks the fourth such occurrence along the upscale Southern California coastline within the past week.

Detectives have not released additional information regarding the latest case since Sunday, as stated by department spokesman Deputy Jacob Sivley in remarks to The Epoch Times on December 30.

Deputies received a call around 1 p.m. Saturday when a hiker reported spotting a body approximately 40 to 50 feet down the cliff at the viewpoint on Palos Verdes Drive South, according to the department.

“Upon arrival, deputies discovered an unknown adult several hundred yards down the cliffside at the location,” the department noted in a news release on Sunday.

According to Lt. Steve DeJong of the sheriff’s homicide bureau, Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics and deputies “navigated down the canyon to the body, confirmed it was human, and pronounced it deceased at the scene,” he informed reporters at a news conference held at the site on Sunday.

The body’s significant decomposition indicates that the individual has been deceased for a considerable time, according to investigators.

Dina’s Viewpoint is a popular hiking destination along the Southern California coastline, known for its stunning ocean and sunset views. Detectives are currently evaluating whether the individual fell from the cliff or if foul play was involved, as stated by DeJong.

Investigators also believe that this death is not related to the human remains that were recently found along the shoreline in the same vicinity.

In a prior event, two bodies were discovered washed ashore on Thursday, coinciding with the disappearance of two boaters whose vessel capsized on December 24.

Weather officials in Southern California cautioned the public regarding perilously high surf conditions last week, as waves in the Los Angeles County region reached heights of 6 to 8 feet.

Compounding the recent enigma, the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department reported the discovery of human limbs along a sandy beach trail in the same area on December 25 and December 26, according to Capt. Aaron Belda.

A passerby found the first leg while walking along the Bluff Cove Trail and promptly contacted the police, Belda stated.

The severed limb was located around 8:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Paseo Del Mar, a sandy trail that runs alongside the shoreline, in close proximity to where the boat capsized.

A second leg was discovered on Thursday, according to the department.

The remains were collected by the county’s medical examiner, who is currently working on identifying the body parts, as reported by the police.

“Officers responded together with the coroner’s office, which confirmed the remains as human,” Belda told The Epoch Times.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department or L.A. Crimestoppers.
