Disneyland Resort to Close 3 Popular Rides for Refurbishment This Summer
The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California is temporarily shuttering three of its popular rides beginning in July—the peak of its summer season—for several weeks for refurbishment.
California Adventure’s ‘Soarin’ Over The World,’ and ‘Toy Story Mania,’ will be temporarily dark along with Disneyland’s classic Monorail after years of on-and-off malfunctions.
According to the Disney Parks blog, Soarin’ Around the World will close from July 5 to July 14, while the Disneyland Monorail will close July 5—with no word yet on when it will reopen. Toy Story Midway Mania will close July 17, with park officials also not yet releasing that ride’s reopening date. However, according to the Disneyland website, the latter two rides will be closed until at least Aug. 8.

Midway Mania and Soarin Around The World have remained two of California Adventure Park’s most frequented rides by park visitors, with average wait times for each often extending over 90 minutes during the summer season, according to MiceChat, a Disney fan and news blog.
Soarin Around The World—which was updated in 2016 from ‘Soarin Over California,’ in which riders were “flown” over some of the Golden State’s scenic landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge—now traverses famous global landmarks in its airplane flyover ride.
The closures come after three additional Disneyland park temporary ride closures in June: ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride,’ and ‘Peter Pan’s Flight.’ Each was also closed for general maintenance and upkeep, Disney officials said.
