Disneyland Set to Kick Off 100th Anniversary Next Month
Featuring new holographic displays throughout the park, a newly decorated Sleeping Beauty castle, limited edition souvenirs and treats, and more, Disneyland in Anaheim, California, has unveiled plans for its 100th anniversary set to begin Jan. 27.
Adding to the festivities will be the park’s new, platinum-themed overlay which it says is meant to signify Disney and its characters’ ability to “withstand the test of time,” much like the precious metal.
Sleeping Beauty’s Castle will be decked out in platinum-themed silver decor during the day and transformed again at night with a holographic display for the park’s new ‘Wondrous Journeys’ show, featuring iconic Disney characters amid fantasy-themed backgrounds. The near-15 minute show will be shown via “state of the art” projection technology, according to park officials.
California Adventures will showcase its own holographic show for the anniversary, including an updated rendition of their ‘World of Color’ show projected on walls of water at Paradise Pier where newer Disney heroes including Moana, Tangled’s Rapunzel, and others will be celebrated.
Beginning Feb. 24, Disneyland’s “Magic Happens” parade will return in honor of the anniversary, where Mickey will lead a procession of floats featuring characters and costumed performers for an homage to some of Disney’s most memorable film moments.
Disney’s fare will also receive a makeover to match the festivities, including limited edition novelties like a platinum-themed Mickey popcorn bucket, platinum Mickey Mouse beverage ‘sipper,’ and other sweet and savory treats to be revealed at a later date.
Also among the park’s new merchandise will be a ‘Disney100 Decades Collection,’ commemorating classic stories and eras from the company’s history from each decade including 1930s-era Snow White and Pinnochio from the 1940s.
Ticket prices vary depending on the date and must be reserved on the park’s website.
Tickets for non-California residents start at $83 per day, not including parking. Southern California residents can purchase tickets for $73 per day on select package deals of three days or more.
