DOGE Links Peace Institute’s Alleged Data Wipe to DOJ
The incident reportedly took place after members of DOGE gained access to the institute’s headquarters earlier this year.
A staff member from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) stated on May 1 that they have referred allegations of data deletion concerning U.S. Institute of Peace accounting records to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
In an interview that aired on Thursday, DOGE leader Elon Musk and his team discussed some of the advisory commission’s findings as it audits various federal agencies, speaking with Fox News host Jesse Watters.
“They erased a terabyte of financial data to hide their crimes, but they lack technological understanding, so we retrieved it,” Musk stated in his post.
The Epoch Times was unable to independently verify the existence of these contracts, and Musk has not provided proof regarding the contracts or the alleged data deletion and recovery.
The U.S. Institute of Peace has not responded to request for comment by the time of publication.
On Thursday, a DOGE member informed Watters that the alleged incident occurred after their team’s access to the agency’s headquarters.
“Hours after entering their headquarters, we discovered that their chief accountant had deleted over a terabyte of accounting records from numerous leaders,” the DOGE member stated. “Congress will undoubtedly want to know where the appropriated funds are going.”
He added that DOGE has reported the alleged data deletion to both the Justice Department and the FBI.
“In this instance, we have referred the evidence concerning the accounting example to the FBI and DOJ.”
The Justice Department and FBI did not provide comments by the publication time.
Following DOGE’s investigation into the U.S. Institute of Peace, nearly all 300 staff members were dismissed, and a DOGE member was appointed as the agency’s leader.
