After initially refusing to debate Kamala Harris because she was not the official candidate, Donald Trump has now agreed to a debate with her. Harris, the current vice president and likely Democratic nominee for November’s election, has secured enough votes from Democratic delegates to become her party’s presidential nominee – though the online voting process is ongoing until Monday. Trump announced his willingness to debate Harris on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that he is prepared to accept the outcome of this situation.

Trump mentioned that the debate rules would be similar to the ones in his previous debate with Joe Biden, who has since dropped his re-election bid. He also proposed a town hall gathering on the same date if Harris was unwilling or unable to debate, but later deleted that post. The debate is expected to be hosted by Fox News on 4 September, with Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum as moderators.

Despite no official details released yet, Trump has confirmed that the debate will take place in Pennsylvania and will be hosted by Fox News on 4 September.

Kamala Harris had previously expressed her readiness for a debate with Trump when Fox News proposed it last month. She is set to be the first woman of color at the helm of a major party’s ticket and is currently in the process of selecting her running mate. Earlier this week, Trump sparked controversy by questioning Harris’s racial identity at a convention hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago.
