Donald Trump Calls on Joe Biden to Take Cognitive Test, But Gets His Doctor’s Name Wrong | US News
Donald Trump has issued a challenge to President Joe Biden to undergo a cognitive test, but in the process, he mistakenly confused the name of his own doctor.
The Republican presidential candidate has frequently criticized his opponent for various gaffes, despite his own tendencies to ramble and get facts wrong.
During a speech in Detroit, Mr Trump raised concerns about the president’s mental sharpness. He stated, “He doesn’t even know what the word ‘inflation’ means. I think he should take a cognitive test like I did.”
Shortly after, he mentioned, “Doc Ronny Johnson. Does everyone know Ronny Johnson, congressman from Texas? He was the White House doctor, and he said I was the healthiest president, he feels, in history, so I liked him very much indeed immediately.”
However, he was actually referring to Ronny Jackson, who served as the White House physician during part of his presidency.
In 2021, Jackson was elected to Congress and has been a strong supporter of Mr Trump on Capitol Hill.
Mr Trump underwent the cognitive test in 2018 at his request, as confirmed by Dr. Jackson at the time. This examination is designed to identify early signs of memory loss and other mild cognitive impairments.
The former president, who celebrated his 78th birthday on Friday, has been questioning whether the 81-year-old President Biden is fit for a second term as a key theme of his campaign.
Following the incident on Saturday night, critics online quickly highlighted his mistake, with the Biden campaign sharing a video clip of the moment shortly after.
President Biden also made a lighthearted comment about Mr Trump’s age, wishing him a happy 78th birthday “from one old guy to another” on X.
