Donald Trump Inaugurated for Second Term as U.S. President | US News
Donald Trump has officially taken the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States, marking what may be the most extraordinary political resurgence in American history.
The Republican, who is the first convicted felon to ascend to the presidency, is currently delivering his inaugural address.
His wife Melania stood by his side as he took the oath for the second time in his career.
A gun salute then signified the commencement of the 47th US president’s term.
Mr. Trump is anticipated to sign a series of executive orders on the first day of his second term, which might include declaring a national emergency at the southern border and revoking birthright citizenship.
The event was attended by various former presidents, foreign dignitaries, tech moguls, and billionaires who have sought to garner Mr. Trump’s favor.
However, the ceremony included a slightly awkward moment when Mr. Trump aimed to kiss his wife but missed her face as he returned to his seat in the Capitol Rotunda.

Typically held outdoors, the ceremony was moved inside to the Capitol Rotunda due to adverse weather conditions, anticipated to be the coldest inauguration day in four decades.
Earlier, Mr. Trump and Melania were joined by Joe Biden and Jill for a traditional tea, meant to welcome the new president on inauguration day. They later proceeded together in a motorcade to the Capitol.
King Charles extended his congratulations to the newly inaugurated president, sending a personal message to Mr. Trump that acknowledged the longstanding special relationship between the UK and the US.
