Dublin-New York Livestream Portal Shut Down Due to ‘Inappropriate Behavior’
A livestream portal between Dublin and New York will be turned off starting at 10pm on Tuesday due to “inappropriate behavior” in Dublin.
The temporary shutdown is happening as efforts continue to find technical solutions to address issues such as flashing body parts and displaying potentially offensive images.
Thousands of people have visited the two-way video link in Dublin, which offers a live view of the Big Apple.
A Dublin City Council statement explained: “The team behind the Portal art sculpture, Portals.org, has been exploring technical solutions to inappropriate behavior by a small number of individuals in front of the portal.
“Unfortunately, the preferred solution, involving blurring, was not successful.
“As a result, the portal will be turned off at 10pm tonight, and the Portals.org team expects it to be back online later this week.”
The statement also mentioned: “We are pleased with how many people have been enjoying the Portal since its launch.
“It has become a worldwide phenomenon, and it is important to note that the vast majority of people interacting with the Dublin Portal have been respectful.”

Dublin City Council observed an increase in foot traffic since the unveiling of the Portal in north Dublin, facing O’Connell Street.
The American portal is located at the bustling Manhattan intersection of Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd Street.
Online videos have shown individuals on the Irish side flashing body parts, displaying profanities on phone screens, and showing images related to 9/11.
Another individual was escorted by Irish police after being seen behaving inappropriately near the portal.
