Dublin to New York portal reopens with new restrictions following incident of misconduct | Global News
A live stream portal connecting people in Dublin and New York has been reactivated after reports of “mooning” and other inappropriate behavior.
The portal had been temporarily shut down due to instances of people flashing body parts, swearing, and displaying images of 9/11.
Operating hours for the portal have now been set – 6am to 4pm in New York City and 11am to 9pm in Dublin.
To address antisocial behavior, Portals.org has implemented a “proximity-based solution” where blocking the camera triggers a blurring of the live stream on both sides of the Atlantic.
In New York, on-site security will be present throughout operational hours, while fencing has been installed for crowd management.
In Dublin, “physical design features” are being added to assist with handling the crowds.

The interactive artwork attracted tens of thousands of visitors since its opening, with nearly two billion online hits.
While most people experienced joy and connection, measures were implemented to address the inappropriate behavior of a small minority in front of the portal.
The portal has now “reawakened”, according to a joint statement from Dublin City Council, Portals.org, and the Flatiron NoMad Partnership.
“The team continues to make updates as necessary to ensure that everyone can enjoy the portal.”

Portals.org artist and founder Benediktas Gylys said: “As humans we are creating the Portals experience together.
