FBI Employees Take Legal Action Regarding Possible Firings Linked to January 6 Investigations
The plaintiffs claim that the Trump administration intends to carry out terminations motivated by politics.
A collective of unidentified FBI employees has initiated a class action lawsuit against the Trump administration, contending that it infringed upon their constitutional rights by collecting and possibly disseminating information regarding employees involved in investigations related to the incidents of January 6, 2021, as well as the classified documents case at Mar-A-Lago.
The focus of the lawsuit is a survey that employees claim they were instructed to complete, detailing their specific involvement in these matters.
“The plaintiffs have a reasonable fear that all or parts of this list could be made public by allies of President Trump, therefore endangering themselves and their families due to potential retribution from those who were pardoned or convicted felons from January 6, who are now on the run.”
The lawsuit identifies nine “John and Jane Does” as plaintiffs, with Acting Attorney General James McHenry as a defendant. The plaintiffs aim to file this lawsuit on behalf of at least 6,000 current and former FBI employees.
They assert that the administration is violating the First Amendment, the Fifth Amendment, and the Privacy Act of 1974.
“Government employees are shielded by the First Amendment from any form of discrimination or retaliation based on their political beliefs or associations, or even perceptions thereof,” the lawsuit claims.
Furthermore, it states that the plaintiffs “believe and fear that the information collected through the survey will be used to specifically target them for retaliatory dismissal due to the Trump administration’s views on their loyalties.”
This is an evolving situation and updates will be provided.
