Firefighters Tackle New Archer Fire as Evacuation Alert Is Issued
A brush fire in the Granada Hills area of Los Angeles rapidly expanded to 20 acres on Friday.
The incident was first reported at 10:25 a.m. on Friday in the 17200 block of West Sesnon Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Initially estimated at two to three acres, the fire expanded rapidly to 20 acres.
Video footage from the scene showed firefighters working to protect structures while police coordinated the evacuation of nearby homes, with emergency vehicles and bulldozers deployed on the ground and air support providing assistance in the surrounding brush.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered shortly after 11 a.m. for residents in the area bounded by Balboa Boulevard and Interstate 5 to the east, Tampa Avenue to the west, Sesnon to the south, and Sunshine Canyon Road to the north. These orders were later downgraded to warnings at 11:42 a.m.
Evacuation warnings were also issued for areas located between Tampa Avenue and Balboa Boulevard, as well as between Rinaldi and Sesnon. These warnings were lifted by 11:42 a.m.
