Fireworks Explosion in Honolulu Claims 2 Lives and Injures 20 Others
HONOLULU—A fireworks explosion on New Year’s Eve in a neighborhood near Honolulu resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left 20 others injured, according to local authorities.
The incident took place just prior to midnight outside a residence, as reported by the Honolulu Fire Department in an official statement. This neighborhood is located in proximity to Honolulu’s international airport and a combined U.S. Air Force and Navy base, approximately 2 miles east of the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial, which commemorates the sailors who lost their lives during the Pearl Harbor attack that led the United States into World War II.
Emergency Medical Services from Honolulu confirmed that two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining 20 victims were taken to nearby hospitals.
The fire department is currently conducting an investigation into the cause of the explosion but has not released any information regarding how it occurred. They noted that there was no fire at the residence, and the identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
