Four individuals found deceased while ‘resting in their seats’ on train in Chicago area | US News

Four individuals were fatally shot on an early morning commuter train near Chicago.

According to the police, the victims were seated apart in two different compartments and seemed to have been assaulted while asleep in their seats while the train was in motion.

Law enforcement officers responded to the incident on Monday just before 5.30am, pronouncing three of the victims dead at Forest Park station.

The fourth person passed away later in the hospital.

The suspect managed to escape but was eventually apprehended with a firearm on another train, as stated by Forest Park Police.

Officials mentioned that the attack appeared to be an isolated event with no further danger to the community.

Details about the identities of the victims have not been disclosed yet.

Forest Park is a suburb situated approximately 10 miles west of downtown Chicago and has a population of around 14,000.

“It’s a terrible tragedy to have four people lose their lives on Labor Day weekend,” stated local mayor Rory Hoskins.

“Our police department and fire department respond to this location more frequently than any other area in our jurisdiction.”

A regular traveler on the route, Sean McNulty, mentioned that criminal activity is not uncommon on trains in that area.

“You just kind of get used to it,” he told the Chicago Tribune. “I keep my eyes open because I want to know what’s going on around me at all times.”

The Chicago Transit Authority condemned the killings as a “heinous and egregious act of violence”.
