Georgia Secretary of State Debunks Fake Video Alleging Voter Fraud as Targeted Disinformation
The video seems to depict a Haitian immigrant with multiple Georgia IDs admitting to illegally voting for Vice President Kamala Harris multiple times.
Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s Secretary of State, declared on Oct. 31 that a video allegedly showing a Haitian immigrant confessing to carrying out voter fraud in the U.S. presidential election is false and a form of targeted disinformation.
The 20-second video surfaced on the social media platform X just days before the Nov. 5 election and quickly gained popularity, with one post featuring the video amassing over 830,000 views as of Nov. 1.
It depicts a Haitian man holding multiple Georgia IDs claiming to have unlawfully voted for Vice President Kamala Harris several times in the presidential race.
“This is false, and is an example of targeted disinformation we’ve seen this election,” Raffensperger stated. “It is likely foreign interference attempting to sow discord and chaos on the eve of the eve of the 2024 Presidential election,” the Republican secretary of state added.
Raffensperger mentioned that his office is collaborating with state and federal officials to trace the video’s origin. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is presently investigating the alleged disinformation video, he noted.
“This is clearly fabricated and part of a disinformation campaign. It is likely a product of Russian troll farms,” Raffensperger expressed. “As Americans, we must not allow our enemies to use falsehoods to divide us and undermine our trust in institutions—or in each other.”
Georgia is among seven crucial battleground states in the Nov. 5 election, alongside Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
The video features a man sitting in the back of a vehicle with others whose faces are not visible on camera. The man stated that he arrived in the United States from Haiti six months ago and had already obtained his U.S. citizenship.
“We’re voting for Kamala Harris. Yesterday, we voted in Gwinnett County, and today, we’re voting in Fulton County,” he declared. “We have all our documents, driver’s license,” he added, displaying what seem to be multiple IDs to the camera. “We encourage all Haitians to come to America and bring their families.”
U.S. intelligence officials have cautioned that Moscow’s attempts to influence the 2024 presidential election are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with malicious actors using artificial intelligence (AI) to create divisive content.
The agencies remarked that it was an endeavor by the Russian government “to raise baseless doubts about the integrity of the U.S. election and fuel divisions among Americans.”
The Epoch Times reached out to the ODNI, the Kremlin, and X for comment but did not receive any responses at the time of publication.
