A tragic incident occurred at a supermarket in Arkansas, United States, resulting in three people dead and 10 others injured. Parked cars and shop windows were left with bullet holes after a gunman opened fire, causing bystanders to seek cover. Two police officers were among the injured individuals and they were able to return fire before the gunman was apprehended. The shooting took place at the Mad Butcher supermarket in Fordyce, a city south of Little Rock with a population of just over 3,000 people. Arkansas State Police director, Colonel Mike Hagar, expressed his sorrow, stating, “It’s tragic, our hearts are broken.” The assailant, identified as 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey, was taken into custody and charged with three counts of murder. More charges are pending.

The injuries sustained by Posey and the officers were not life-threatening, but other victims ranged from “not life-threatening to extremely critical,” according to Col. Hagar. It remains unclear what motivated the shooting and whether it occurred primarily inside or outside the store. Witnesses like Roderick Rogers, a city council member, observed the chaos as people sought safety in any available means.
