Harris and Biden Share Matching Final Social Media Posts
With images of their spouses alongside them, both expressed that it was an ‘honor’ to serve as president and vice president.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris shared their final social media posts on Monday, just ahead of the inauguration ceremony for the 47th president, Donald Trump.
Both posts included a portrait featuring Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Harris, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
After Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, X transferred the official “POTUS” and “VP” X accounts to Trump and Vice President JD Vance, respectively. Jill Biden’s account was set to be handed over to the now-First Lady Melania Trump.
Elon Musk, the owner of X and a notable supporter of Trump during the latter part of the 2024 presidential campaign, attended the inauguration at the U.S. Capitol alongside other tech leaders like Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, and Apple’s Tim Cook.
Attendees of the event also included former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Clinton’s wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Bush’s wife, former First Lady Laura Bush, were present at the inauguration. Former First Lady Michelle Obama did not attend.
Among those present at the event were former Vice President Mike Pence, his wife Karen Pence, and former Vice President Dan Quayle. Dick Cheney, who served as Bush’s vice president, did not attend.
The Bidens met with Trump earlier that day and accompanied him to the U.S. Capitol for the ceremonial transfer of power.
In January 2021, just before Trump exited office for the first time, he shared a message on his personal Twitter account, now known as X, regarding the election and inauguration.
“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape, or form!!!” Trump posted on January 9, 2021.
Later that same day, he added: “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th” of that year.
Trump was subsequently banned from Twitter, Facebook, and Google-owned platforms. His access to social media accounts was restored in mid-2023 after Musk acquired Twitter.
However, Trump did not actively use the platform until late 2024, as his campaigning increased for the Nov. 5, 2024, election. Instead, he mainly posted on Truth Social, a social media service he established a few years earlier.
