Harris Makes Strong Appeal to Michigan Workers on 3-city Tour
Vice President Harris made a visit to Michigan’s Saginaw and Macomb counties before attending an evening rally in Ann Arbor.
With just a week remaining until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized her support for American workers and industry during her campaign stops in Michigan.
On October 28, Harris, the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, stopped in Michigan’s Saginaw and Macomb counties to discuss her plans for boosting the economy of the United States and Michigan. She concluded the day with a rally in Ann Arbor.
In the meantime, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris’s running mate, was campaigning in Wisconsin and later joined Harris at the rally in Ann Arbor.
Michigan is among the key battleground states that are likely to determine the outcome of the Electoral College. President Joe Biden won Michigan in 2020, while former President Donald Trump carried it in 2016.
Prior to departing from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Harris expressed her focus on engaging with “working people with families, with young people” to address the issues that matter most to them.
Harris highlighted price inflation and the increasing cost of living as key campaign issues for Michiganders. She remarked on the high cost of groceries and her plans to address price gouging to help people achieve the American dream.
She also discussed initiatives such as providing $25,000 in down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers and promoting government investment in manufacturing.
During her visit to Saginaw, Harris spoke at Corning Inc.’s Hemlock Semiconductor Next-Generation Finishing facility, advocating for the Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 backed by the Biden administration.
Harris also pledged to review federal job requirements on her first day in office to expand access to candidates without a college degree. She presented the upcoming presidential election as pivotal for the country’s future trajectory while in Saginaw.
On October 26, Harris campaigned alongside former First Lady Michelle Obama in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Michelle Obama focused on abortion policies while Harris outlined her vision for a more prosperous nation.
Early voting for the presidential election commenced in Michigan on October 26, with over 145,000 ballots cast on that day alone, according to the Michigan Department of State.
