Hawaii Volcano Unleashes Impressive Lava Fountains in Latest Kilauea Eruption Episode

HONOLULU—A spectacular eruption was underway at a volcano in Hawaii on Tuesday, with lava fountains actively shooting upwards in a series of episodes that have intermittently paused and resumed.

On Monday night, the lava fountains at a vent of the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island reached heights exceeding 250 feet, as reported by the most recent update from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

The following morning, a webcam captured robust streams of bright red lava cascading down.

This eruption commenced on December 23 in a crater at the summit of Kilauea, recognized globally as one of the most active volcanoes.

This incident marks the eighth episode of the eruption cycle. Following initial small and sporadic spatter fountains that began on Sunday, the intensity increased notably, according to the observatory. Remarkably, the heights of the fountains surged from 50 feet (15.24 meters) to 250 feet within just an hour on Monday evening.

The ongoing eruption is taking place within a secured area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and does not pose any threat to nearby homes or infrastructure.
