Holiday Hijinks: Man Trapped in Chimney While Evading Police
A man from Massachusetts attempted to evade the police by sliding down a chimney.
Unfortunately, he got stuck.
The individual fled to a rooftop, embodying what the Fall River Police Department referred to as “the spirit of a seasonal symbol,” but ended up requiring rescue from the detectives pursuing him after becoming wedged inside a chimney on Tuesday evening.
Body camera footage from the Fall River Police Department captures a detective yelling, “Hey, he’s on the roof. Get down here!” Moments later, bystanders informed detectives that a man was “screaming” from a nearby chimney. In disbelief, the detectives climbed onto the roof and looked down the shaft with a flashlight, spotting the man trapped inside. “You’re an idiot,” one of the detectives remarked.
Detectives called for firefighters, who had to carefully remove bricks to release the man. “Due to his Santa-like antics, (the man) was taken to a local hospital as a precaution,” stated the police.
The man remained in custody on Thursday, facing drug charges along with other charges stemming from outstanding warrants. His court-appointed attorney did not respond immediately to an email request for comment. Another individual wanted by the police was observed jumping off the roof and over a fence, successfully escaping capture.
