Tributes have poured in from politicians and family members for former US president Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Sunday afternoon in Georgia at the age of 100.
The centenarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate died at his residence in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his loved ones, according to the Carter Center.

The current president and first lady of the United States expressed their condolences, referring to him as “an exceptional leader, statesman, and humanitarian.”
In their statement, they remarked: “For over sixty years, we were privileged to call Jimmy Carter a cherished friend.”
“What’s remarkable about Jimmy Carter is that millions of individuals across America and around the globe, who never had the chance to meet him, considered him a close friend as well.”
Bill and Hillary Clinton
Former president Bill Clinton, who collaborated with Jimmy Carter post-presidency, and secretary Hillary Clinton said he “dedicated his life to serving others – right until the very end”.
“From his commitment to civil rights as a state senator and governor of Georgia; to his initiatives as President that facilitated peace between Egypt and Israel at Camp David; to his post-Presidential missions with the Carter Center advocating for free elections, fostering peace, combating disease, and advancing democracy… he worked tirelessly for a more just and equitable world,” they stated.

His son, Chip Carter, remarked: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and selfless love.”
“My siblings and I shared him with the world through our collective values.”
“The world became our family because of how he united people, and we thank you for honoring his legacy by continuing to embody these shared values.”
Senator Chuck Schumer
Democrat Chuck Schumer referred to President Carter as “one of our most humble and dedicated public servants.”
He added: “President Carter epitomized true leadership through service, compassion, and integrity.”
