House GOP Probes DA Bragg’s Crime Policies in NYC; 2 Arrested Over Secret Chinese Police Station

The House Judiciary Committee met in New York City on April 17 to hear from witnesses affected by violent crimes, which Republicans say is the result of District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s soft-on-crime policies. But Democrats on the panel said the hearing was political retribution over former President Donald Trump’s indictment.

The FBI arrested two people on charges of operating a secret police station in New York City on behalf of China’s regime, according to the Justice Department. The duo, Lu Jianwang, 61, and Chen Jinping, 59, conspired to work as agents of the Chinese Communist Party and took orders from the regime in order to track down and silence Chinese dissidents living in the United States, prosecutors said.

Over 180 people have died, and nearly 2,000 injured in intense fighting in Sudan. Two of the country’s top generals are battling for power over the resource-rich nation.
