Hurricane Hilary: California Prepares for First Tropical Storm in 84 years While Mexico Grapples with its Aftermath

California is preparing for its first tropical storm in 84 years. The storm, named Hilary, was previously categorized as a Category 4 hurricane but weakened as it approached the Mexican coast. It is now expected to head towards California and other southeastern US states. Southern California, where at least nine million people reside, is under flood warnings due to the anticipated heavy rain, mudslides, tornadoes, high winds, and power outages. Up to 10 inches of rain are predicted, causing mud to spill onto highways and overwhelming drainage systems. People in some counties have been ordered to evacuate, and Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency. As a result of the storm, almost 1,000 flights have been cancelled, and Disneyland closed early. Additionally, the ongoing actors’ strike in Hollywood has been called off due to the extreme weather.
