Iconic Music Producer Steve Albini, Known for his Work with Nirvana and Pixies, Passes Away at 61 | Entertainment & Arts Update
US musician and rock producer Steve Albini, who collaborated with bands like Nirvana, PJ Harvey, and Pixies, has passed away at the age of 61.
Albini, known as a “punk legend,” notably produced Nirvana’s In Utero, Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, and PJ Harvey’s Rid Of Me albums in the ’80s and ’90s.
Nirvana’s late frontman Kurt Cobain was a fan of Pixies, one of Albini’s iconic bands.
In addition to his production work, Albini was a member of bands like Big Black, Rapeman, and his latest project, Shellac.
Shellac had recently completed a new album, To All Trains, and was preparing for a tour before Albini’s passing.
He also established the Electric Audio recording studio in Chicago and had worked on over 2,000 albums for underground and indie artists.
Many in the music industry paid tribute to Albini, with musician Frank Turner calling him a “punk legend.”

Among the condolences, Pixies shared a photo of Albini with the caption RIP Steve Albini.
Actor Elijah Wood expressed his sorrow, calling Albini a legend and sending love to his family and colleagues.
Rough Trade, a record shop chain, praised Albini’s contributions to the music industry and his impact on rock music.
Albini, born in 1962, was a pivotal figure in Chicago’s punk rock scene, where he started his music career in the late ’70s and early ’80s.
He was known for his uncompromising stance on royalties and rates in the music industry, as well as his commentary on the evolving landscape of music streaming.
Albini’s legacy in the music world will be remembered for years to come.
