Intruder Detained at UnitedHealthcare Headquarters Months After CEO’s Death
The Minnetonka Police Department reported the detention of an adult male following sightings of an intruder near UnitedHealthcare’s Minnesota headquarters.
At 11:30 a.m., the department expressed via the social media platform X, “There is currently a significant police presence at the United Healthcare campus. A suspect outside of United Healthcare has been taken into custody without any incidents.”
The police department indicated that it is actively monitoring the situation.
“There is no threat to the public,” they confirmed. “We are continuing to clear the scene at this time.”
While no injuries were reported, the scene was characterized by the presence of over a dozen law enforcement vehicles in addition to an ambulance.
As of Monday afternoon, authorities had not released further details regarding the incident or the individual reported as the intruder.
The incident took place just over four months following the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City on December 4, 2024. Thompson was shot to death while walking to an investor conference in midtown Manhattan.
The alleged murderer, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, is an Ivy League graduate hailing from a family with real estate investments in Maryland.
Mangione has pleaded not guilty to state charges of murder and terror, and he is also facing federal charges, which were filed on December 19, 2024.
In response, Mangione’s attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, expressed her intention to vigorously contest the charges against her client.
Prosecutors allege that Mangione stalked the CEO prior to shooting him, prompting a subsequent manhunt. The shooting left some health insurers so shaken that they opted for remote work or virtual meetings in its aftermath.
