IRVINE, Calif.—Many Orange County residents have been waiting for a splash at the Wild Rivers Waterpark on hot summer days, but its reopening date has been rescheduled to July 10 because of supply chain issues.

“We are committed to building Southern California’s best-in-class water park experience, but have been severely impacted by supply chain issues causing construction delays,” read an email sent on June 28 to those who already purchased tickets, as reported by the Orange County Register.

The park’s soft opening was originally set to be June 20.

The email provided guests options to reschedule their trip or get a refund starting July 29 at 9 a.m. through the waterpark’s official website.

The new waterpark will be double the size of the original with a giant wave pool, quarter-mile-long lazy river, water slides, and rafter rides—as well as food and drinks available for purchase, according to the website. Visitors can expect 20 exciting water rides and attractions that pay tribute to Polynesian culture.

The original site was established in Irvine in 1986 but was demolished after the Irvine Company didn’t renew its lease in 2011.

After its closing, the owner, Mike Riedel, continued to search for a new place to rebuild it—until the plan was finalized in 2020 with the Great Park, where a 20-acre space was set aside for the $60-million project.
