Joe Biden warns of threats to freedom and democracy ‘at home and abroad’ in State of the Union address | US News
During one of the most important speeches of his presidency, Joe Biden emphasized that freedom and democracy are “under attack” in both the US and abroad.
In his State of the Union address, the US president called on Congress to continue supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia, stating that “History is watching.”
He highlighted the threat posed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed certainty that the Kremlin’s aggression would extend beyond Ukraine.
Addressing the House chamber, Mr. Biden quickly addressed his Republican opponent and predecessor, Donald Trump, condemning his recent remarks about Russia.
The 81-year-old also referenced the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the Capitol Building by Trump supporters, whom he did not label as “patriots.”
He urged for action to counter the threat to democracy and criticized Mr. Trump and certain members of the chamber for attempting to “bury the truth,” a tactic he vowed not to employ.
